Wilder, KY–Representative Dennis Keene presented a legislative citation honoring the military service of WWII Army Veteran Lillard Brown at the annual Flag Raising Ceremony at the City of Wilder City Building on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. Representative Keene recently secured the long overdue Bronze Star medal for the 88-year-old Wilder resident Lillard Brown, who served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Brown fought in the 164th Infantry Division and received two purple hearts for wounds received in battle. Brown was never awarded a Bronze Star until Keene provided assistance working through the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the Army of the United States distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service. Lillard Brown served two and half years in combat beginning at age 19. He fought on behalf of the United States primarily in the Philippines.
